The deployment of Iskender has got me thinking: What do you think of missiles in that kind of range - and one shorter, like ATACMS.

Well what has the EU got now?
I mean Isreal has a plethora of rocket artillary options.
China has
Turkey
South Korea
Iran
Russia
Maybe Poland, but otherwise we're all stuck with what is essentially a US devised ssytem, GMLRS and ATACMS.
Sweden has worked on rocket boosted SDB.
UK has a option for Brimstone and SPEAR III.
So yes, there is a gap here, and as i suggested elsewhere a Pershing-type missile has it's place, as does shorter ranged systems.
I've heard rumble of a VLS Taurus, but that is a cruise missile.
Again, for short ranged options, a simplified version of CAMM (minus the IR seeker and other associated SAM/AAM systems) with INS/GPS could provide an option here.

CAMM is a pretty small missile though and optimised for anti air. Question is - nuclear or conventional? I really don't want a missile to have both roles - too many options for misunderstandings.

Well I rather think of a derivative of CAMM along the lines of Israel's Jumper, using INS/GPS and a convetional warhead.
For nuclear delivery, something bigger is best, since it comes down to the warhead's dimensions. So something like a 400mm to 800mm diameter missile would be preferable.

Worth it I think if it can also carry multiple types of payload, from a single large conventional warhead to multiple small anti-armour bomblets or anti-personel warheads like thermobaric....or even a EW warhead of some sort......
Hmmmmm......could there not be scope here for working with the Navy and producing some landbased Sylver silo based system? Which can then also be used from ship?

that's a thought. Problem is that the gold standard for anything ballistic is really MLRS.

at the moment it is I think. US launches just about everything from those launchers. Allies buy it. I think this will remain for quite a while.
